Consumer Electronics Company
In late 2020, a multi-national consumer electronics company suffered a security breach in their CMS and marketing software tools; the customer assessed customer personal information was targeted but not breached. While no major breach was suspected, the electronics company had little insight into existing vulnerabilities or the ability to remediate risks to prevent future attacks.
We were engaged to identify and prioritize key risks and remediate those deemed “critical,” or those posing a significant threat for another breach. We started by using a leading Intrusion Detection System (IDS), to complete a series of penetration tests to scan all software housing customer information, both B2C and B2B.
Over the course of four weeks, Accel performed a total of 40 scans at both the application and infrastructure layer. We identified 193 risks, 51% of which were deemed, critical and posed a significant risk for future breaches. At the application layer, we found that 75% of the identified risks were deemed critical and posed a significant threat to company security.
We worked with our client to prioritize critical risks and devised remediation strategies for all risks identified. We were able to remediate 100% risks and remove any immediate threat of a further breach of customer data housed within any of the customer-centric systems, past the CMS and marketing software.
Accel handled the complexity so we didn’t have to, and created a simple mobile journey for our customers.
